Organized team sports have the obvious benefit of physical health, but there are also so many other things sports gives our children. Lower rates of depression, higher self-esteem, and increased cognitive benefits are just a few of the mental benefits of participating in sports (see more here). Players also learn important life skills like leadership, teamwork, communication, decision making, and perseverance. These are all important things that players carry with them in all aspects of their life far away from the field.
70% of kids in America quit playing team sports by age 13, the number one reason kids quit playing team sports...it is "no longer fun".
Meraki wants to change this.

The Meraki Sports Project is a new approach to organized sports, creating an atmosphere where the player is in control to make their own decisions on the field without the fear of disappointing their coach, team, or family.

Meraki wants our players to have a competitive and winning mindsight. The tough thing about sports is only half the people get to win the game, and even a fewer number hold that trophy above their head at the end of the season.
Life outside of sports also has winners and losers, and learning how to accept losing and getting back up to keep going may be the most important life skill learned. It is learned from watching coaches and parents. It's not easy, but we have to set the best example we can.
It is our job to keep our kids wanting to play sports.
